BIOGRAPHY |
The name "LeToya" is described as the "victorious one" and
LeToya Luckett has definitely proven the definition to be
true. As a founding member of the R&B group Destiny's Child,
she help set the group's path to success and later set her
own, becoming a successful entrepreneur, solo artist, and
burgeoning actress.
On July 25, 2006, LeToya's long-awaited, self-titled solo
debut album was released and entered the Billboard charts at
#1. Her debut single, "Torn", was the hottest song of the
summer, reaching #2 on the Billboard singles chart within
weeks of its release. Its accompanying video broke records
by becoming the #1 video on BET's 106 & Park countdown for
25 consecutive days - the first video to do so since
Aaliyah's "Rock the Boat" in 2003. Her second single, "She
Don't", become her second Top-20 hit. The album was
certified Gold just one month after its release and reached
Platinum by December 2006.
In addition to her success as a musical artist, LeToya is an
entrepreneur and actress. In 2003, she opened her own
upscale women's boutique, Lady L, in the Uptown Park
Shopping Center in her hometown of Houston, Texas. Every
item in the store is personally selected by LeToya and
consists of highly sought after brands such as Black Halo,
Crystal Rock, Ed Hardy, and Sky. Lady L will be celebrating
5 successful years of business this November. Earlier this
year, she also made her formal acting debut as Michelle in
the hit stage play "Rumors", written and directed by JD
Lawrence. Having just got her feet wet, she is already
working on several new projects.
In the midst of all this success, LeToya's music is still
her top priority and she is currently putting the finishing
touches on her eagerly anticipated sophomore album. Bryan M.
Cox, Dave Young, Babyface, Rodney Jerkins, Raphael Saadiq,
Polow Da Don, Pharrell Williams, Stargate, GL Productions,
and Teddy Riley are just some of the writers and producers
she has worked with so far. While no official release date
has been announced, you can expect to hear something from
LeToya in the coming weeks. |
